Live Review Orchid, Blues Pills & Scorpion Child - 14.11.2013 Berlin C-Club - English version Live Review Orchid, Blues Pills & Scorpion Child - Nov 14th 2013 Berlin C-Club

English version Live Review Orchid, Blues Pills & Scorpion Child - Nov 14th 2013 Berlin C-Club

On November 14th 2013 the bands Orchid, Blues Pills, and the Texans Scorpion Child invited everyone for a music fest of the finest in the Berlin C-Club. Because of this package we were able to look forward to an evening in the style of Doom, Heavy Rock and a little Blues. All of this was in a location that had already drawn us in with its atmosphere at the Death & Hardcore Superstar concert. Although the gates opened on time at precisely 7pm, we first enjoyed two beers from the far north and did Metal small-talk as usual. At a quarter past 7 the C-Club swallowed us whole for the third time this month.

We gave the merch booth without detours our full attention and had to find out with enthusiasm that “Zodiac Session” by Orchid was offered for sale. Shirts and Phonograms were very well presented, the prices of 20€ for a camisole could have been a bit cheaper though, but the CD-prices for 15€ (Orchid “The Zodiac Sessions”) were quite moderate.
Now it was time to do something for the physical well-being and so we “refreshed” ourselves with a delicious Pils (beer), before it was supposed to be “showtime” at 8 PM. The club filled up rapidly until then, so the opener Scorpion Child was able to enjoy the view into a crowded hall. 400 tickets were already previously sold over the counter and therefore the club hosted about 700 people that night. Scorpion Child of Austin, Texas, opened the show. They started their set with “Kings Highway” followed by “Polygon of Eyes” and “The Secret Spot”. The stage activities of the musicians were very good. One saw them formally that they lived their music. Lead guitarist Chris Cowart obviously likes playing on the speaker towers, which he repeatedly climbed during the set. It was followed by “Liquor”, “Salvation Slave” and a track that was unfortunately not known to the author. At the end they gave “Keep Going” as well as “She Sings I Kill” at their best. The sound was really good and it’s safe to say that Scorpion Child has done a solid job as the opening act this evening.

After the reconstruction break it was time for “Blues Pills”. They celebrated their blues rock with a joy and an enthusiasm that musically reminded me of Led Zeppelin. The American-Swedish-French quartet started the show with “Bliss”. It was followed by “Dig in” and the outstanding “Devil Man” from the same current EP. With Elin Larsson’s wonderful voice, with a mix of blues, rock and earthy soul, he pulled the present people immediately into his spell. The rhythm section did the same and you could get the impression that Blues Pills were not only in their own world, but rather the music called for the fans to go back to the 60’s and 70’s with them. Real iconic! They have “Little Sun”, “Astra Plane” and, last but not least, “Black Smoke” to the best. “Blues Pills” left a good impression. Scorpion Child and Blues Pills were excellent support bands and came clearly raw or rather unpolished across than on their cans.

The headliner of this tour was Orchid from San Francisco, California. They entered the stage with “Heretic” and followed up immediately after with “Mouths of Madness” before they burned the stage with the ingenious “Capricorn”. The force behind the controls gave the band a mega fat sound, laying the foundation for the guys from Frisco who pumped their Seventies Heavy Rock (which is very similar to Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin already mentioned above)according to the rules of art into the Columbia Club. It was not uninterest at any second or even boring, no, quite the contrary, the songs boomed such Seventies-like out of the speakers that I got the impression that the colorful Seventies have taken the entire building on Columbiadamm in its possession. Mark Thomas Barker gave his electric guitar a good beating with every strum. With “Silent One”, “Eastern Woman” and “Masters Of It All” (awesome song) the next tracks were pressed into our ears. Theo Mindell was vocally in a very good mood and impressed us once again with a terrific performance. His companions did the same and so the Orchids frontman rocked inexorably towards the finale of the evening. The official part of the show was ended with “Black Funeral”, “Eyes Behind the Wall” (what a song) and “He Who Walk Alone”. The only downer was the addition of “Wizard of War”- and only because it was the only addition. We would have liked to hear another 2-3 more songs but everything good unfortunately has to come to an end.

That night one thing became clear to us without any doubt: This music belongs on the stage, because no vinyl, no CD and certainly no lousy mp3 is able to deliver even the slightest bit of this unique atmosphere as well as the sound of the Seventies. Awesome!

My thanks goes to everyone involved who made this great evening possible and running so smoothly which is admittedly not always the case, but hard work!

GUNS N' ROSES - Live Review - 22.06.2017 Hannover Messegelände

Legenden, Helden, Vorbilder.

Feldbrand Festival 2016 - The Vibe - Slot Machine - Used F.O. - Review

Feldbrand Festival?

Live Review Cattle Decapitation + Letzter - Bi Nuu Berlin - 18.07.2016

Traces Of You "Deliverence" 2015
